Outdoor Pole-Mounted Fast Recloser

Automatic reclosers are intelligent switching devices used in distribution network automation. They are control switches that detect fault currents, interrupt the fault current within a specified time interval, and then reclose a predetermined number of times. When a short circuit occurs on the line, the recloser performs opening and closing operations in a prescribed sequence and at set time intervals. In the event of a permanent fault, after completing the predefined sequence of operations, if reclosing fails, the device locks in the open position to isolate the faulted section; once the fault is cleared, manual reset is required to unlock it. For transient faults, during the opening–closing cycle, if reclosing is unsuccessful, subsequent opening–closing operations are halted, and after a specified delay the device returns to its initial settings, ready to respond to the next fault. The recloser can execute multiple opening–closing cycles according to a preprogrammed sequence of operations.
