Grounding Fault Indicator

The EKL4 ground-fault and short-circuit fault indicator is installed in conjunction with ring-main units, cable distribution boxes, and packaged substations in distribution network systems. It is a real-time monitoring device designed to detect short-circuit and single-phase-to-ground faults in the corresponding cable sections. When a fault occurs on a line, field personnel can use the indicator’s alarm signals to quickly identify the faulty section and locate the exact fault point. At the same time, the alarm information is transmitted in real time to the monitoring center’s server, where it is displayed on the monitoring computer screen, indicating the specific area and precise location of the fault. This enables line patrol personnel to rapidly pinpoint the faulty section and isolate the fault. The indicator provides the optimal solution for troubleshooting, significantly enhancing operational efficiency, reducing outage durations, accelerating power restoration, and improving power supply reliability and economic benefits.

Main Functions

1. Short-circuit fault indication: When a short-circuit fault occurs in the circuit and the current reaches or exceeds the set threshold for the short-circuit fault alarm, the short-circuit sensor emits an alarm signal, which is transmitted via optical fiber to the host unit. Upon receiving this signal, the host unit generates a corresponding alarm indication.
2. Ground Fault Indication: When a ground fault occurs on the line and the fault current reaches or exceeds the set threshold for the ground-fault alarm, the short-circuit sensor emits an alarm signal, which is transmitted via optical fiber to the host unit. Upon receiving this signal, the host unit generates the corresponding alarm indication.
3. Automatic Reset: After the indicator emits an alarm signal, if no manual reset is performed, the indicator will automatically reset after the set delay time. The reset delay can be set to 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, or 48 hours; the factory default setting is 12 hours.
4. Manual Reset: After the indicator triggers an alarm, the alarm can be cleared by pressing the “Reset/Test” button on the indicator’s main control panel.
5. Automation: After the indicator generates the corresponding alarm signal, it can transmit the alarm signal remotely.
6. Self-test: Press and hold the “Reset/Test” button on the host panel for 2 seconds; the ground fault and fault alarm indicator lights on the panel will then flash. After flashing eight times, the system will automatically reset, though manual reset is also possible. The interval between successive self-tests should be 2 to 5 seconds.
